McIntosh Brothers Cattle
Registered Gelbvieh & Balancer Bulls & Females
McIntosh Brothers is a family owned seedstock operation located in Georgetown KY. We are the 3ed generation involved in seedstock production. We grew up showing cattle in 4-H and FFA and currently run 75 registered Gelbvieh and Balancer cows that are bred to thrive on Kentucky fescue. Our goal is to produce cattle that will be problem free and more importantly profitable. We feel we have a responsibility to our customers to provide them with the highest quality genetics to insure their success and profitability.
In 1988 after seeing research results for the USDA Meat Animal Research Center in Clay Center NE. Jim Wynn (William and Steve McIntosh’s uncle) brought some of the first Gelbvieh cattle into central KY. William and Steve bought their first Gelbvieh show heifers the following year in 1989. Those original cows sold us on the Gelbvieh breed. Their disposition, fertility and milking ability set them apart for other breeds of that day. The first year our Gelbvieh calves weaned off the cow a little over 100 pounds heavier than our other calves under the same management. We knew right away this was the breed we wanted to be involved in. In 2001 we included Balancer cattle to our breeding program. This has allowed us to produce cattle that excel in a number of areas from calving ease, material traits, performance, and carcass quality.
In the past 30 years we have seen lots and lots of change, from changes in the cattle to the addition of the next generation of McIntosh Brother Steve and Ashley’s sons Jordan and Jason. Over the past 3 decades we have worked hard to continue to improve our cow herd. We have used extensively AI, embryo transfer, genomic data, and Epd’S to help us make the soundest decision and the quickest progress. We have identified and invested in some of the top genetics in the Gelbvieh and Balancer breed to insure we are offering our customers the highest quality most profitable genetics we can. We have put a tremendous emphasis on improving calving ease, lowering birth weights, improve udder quality and as evident by the pictures we fixed the phenotype from the 1990’s, while keeping the traits that brought us to the breed. 30 years later we are very proud of the progress we have made in these areas.
